Subject:
Decent singer / songwriter
I had never heard of this girl before today. I'm just a fan of the taper (Aaron Parker) and the music he usually hits / records. And 'The Bike Barn' seems to be a folkie / singer-songwriter type of performance space, judging from what i've seen here on the archive of other bands.
The crowd is really quiet during her songs. it sounds like it's a small coffee-shop size place. 30-40 people probably. Unfortunately, her vocals aren't turned up that high and her guitar playing overpowers her vocals somewhat, imo. Madeline sings and plays guitar and someone is playing a cello or violin. Madeline's voice is sort of celtic / folkie sounding. Track 4 (The song dedicated to Johnny Cash) has a much better guitar performance than the first 3 songs, imo. Also sounds a little bit like Alanis Morrisette. Clapping is a little loud / dramitic from her soft music, so be prepared. Tracks 6-7 are very 'folk music from the south' style with slightly upbeat cadence and 'telling a story' style. With track 8 it is more accapella and it sounds like another girl (or few) joined her to harmonize on the song. Decent singer, but by the end of the 30:05 set, I was ready for it to be over.
Photos from this show and other shows are up on flickr! for viewing.

Madeline Wins
Believe it or not, Madeline has actually beaten life and currently holds the high score.
Amazing set from the most talented (and beautiful) singer/songwriter I've ever heard.

Subject:
Madeline will take over the world
Madeline is probably one of the top ten songwriters in America right now. She's got a style all of her own. Forget your assumptions about what a female singer-songwriter will sound like.
Anyway, this is a great recording of mostly new material from the summer of 2005.
Sooner or later this girl is going to take over the world.
